The Author

Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

CELEBRANT: Praying with the hope of the Advent Season in our hearts, let us confidently offer intercession on behalf of all.

READER: Please respond, "COME, LORD JESUS!"

1.  That the Church, shepherds and faithful, may be a voice crying out, in the wilderness of a wounded world, for justice and compassionate love, and a model of those virtues for all to see and follow, we pray...

2.  That world leaders may resolve to turn from the path of war and any support of terror to the way that will lead to a lasting peace for all humanity, we pray...

3.  That those fleeing their homes, owing to grinding poverty or ever-threatening violence, may soon and very soon, by the generous hospitality of their sister and brother human beings, be able to exchange garments of sorrow for robes of rejoicing, we pray...

4.  That the gift of the anti-covid vaccines may become ever more appreciated and widespread in these United States and around the world, we pray...

5.  That, during this grace-filled Advent season, each of us may accept the challenge to prepare a way for the Lord as agents of his reconciliation, making straight his path into our hearts and our world, we pray...

6.  That our First Responders and our service men and women in harm’s way may, at this special time of the rolling year, be blessed with safety, we pray...

7. That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may be gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially __________,) we pray...

8.  That the sorrowing may be lifted up in hope by Easter’s promise; and _________, (and) all our beloved dead be welcomed into God’s eternal and loving embrace, we pray...

CELEBRANT:  O God, as we strive to prepare your way, remove any obstacles to our love and understanding.  Help us to build bridges of justice and peace, and complete in us the good work you have begun.  All this we ask through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
