The Author

Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

CELEBRANT: Let us lift our hands in prayer and raise our heads in hope to the Lord our Justice, Who is and Who is coming again!

READER: Please respond, “COME, LORD JESUS!”

1.  That God’s people the world over, and especially the shepherds of the flock, may bring about the dawning of a new age for all the human family through a renewed commitment to a more just world and a more just Church, we pray...

2.  That peace may flower among the nations, especially for the war-weary peoples of Yemen and Ethiopia, we pray...

3.  That the developed countries of Mother Earth, home to all the human family, may commit their resources to welcoming refugees beaten down by forces beyond their control, and to mitigating climate change, especially for the sake of the poor, we pray...

4. That the disciples of Jesus may bring words of hope and deeds of love to any who are anxious about life for whatever reason, we pray...

5.  That we of this faith community may abound in love for one another, and so be prepared to stand before the Christ who is coming in glory, we pray...

6.  That our service men and women and First Responders in harm’s way may be safe in these special days of the rolling year, we pray...

7. That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may be gifted with compassion and the healing touch of our God, (especially ________,) we pray...

8.  That the sorrowing may be consoled by the hope of Easter’s promise; and, ___________, (and) all our beloved dead welcomed into God’s eternal and loving embrace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Lord our God, we praise you for Your Son, Jesus Christ: He is Emmanuel, the hope of the peoples; He is the Wisdom that teaches and guides us; He is the Savior of every nation.  Let your blessing come upon us as we begin this Advent season.  May the holiness of our words and our deeds show us to be watchful and alert for the great coming.  This we pray through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
