Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

CHRIST THE KING

CELEBRANT:  Trusting that our Shepherd God listens to the prayers we offer for those in need, we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our King.

READER: Please respond, “SHEPHERD GOD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That Jesus, portrayed in the Gospel as a refugee at birth and as a criminal in death, may be served in all His hurting sisters and brothers by a humble, compassionate Church, we pray. . .

2.  That the Lord God, shepherd of all the human family, may gather into unity and peace the nations so scattered by war, hatred, and violence, we pray. . .

3.  That workers providing assistance to those afflicted by natural disasters, at home and abroad, and the coronavirus may be shepherds of healing and hope to God’s hurting flock, and be blessed abundantly in and for their efforts, we pray. . .

4.  That all Christian communities may be ever more the Church we have seen this year in Matthew’s Gospel: inclusive communities, where the last are first and the least are greatest, where authority is service, and fulfillment of the law is love, we pray. . .

5. That, once certified by the States, the results of the Presidential election may be received in peace by all our citizens, we pray. . .

6. That a just, wise, and loving stewardship of all our gifts may truly become a way of life for each of us, we pray. . .

7. That our service men and women, our First Responders, and essential workers may rejoice in safety; and, the seriously ill in our parish community and among our family members and friends be gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially ____________________), we pray. . .

8. That those in our midst sorrowing for loved ones may be comforted by the hope that, with our God, the darkness of death yields to the light of life; and,

____________________, (and) all our beloved dead hear: “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world,” we pray. . .

CELEBRANT: We are your people, O God, the sheep of your flock.  Receive with kindness the prayers we voice on behalf of those in need.  Keep us close to you and form us, more and more, into the likeness of the Holy One through whom we make our prayer, Jesus Christ, our King and Lord, forever and ever.
