The Author

Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

CELEBRANT: Let us pray to God, in the name of Jesus Christ, the ruler of the kings of the earth, whose dominion is everlasting and whose kingship shall never be destroyed.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That Christians, and especially their leaders, may imitate Jesus by renouncing worldly power, and by bearing witness, through humble service, to God’s kingdom of justice, hope, compassion, and love, we pray...

2.  That those who govern nations and guide the destinies of peoples may listen to the voice of Truth and seek the path to peace where war and violence now reign supreme, we pray...

3.  That all the words spoken in Glasgow about the climate crisis may soon and very soon lead to the challenging actions needed to save Mother Earth, home to all the human family, from catastrophe, we pray...

4.  That all who feel powerless in the face of life’s difficulties may find helping hands and loving hearts in Catholic communities throughout our land, especially in this holiday season, we pray...

5.  That we of this faith community, fashioned by Jesus into a kingdom of priests, may by our worship glorify God and by our witness announce Christ’s reign of peace and of life, we pray...

6.  That our service men and women and our First Responders may be blessed with safety; and the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends gifted with compassion and the healing touch of our God, (especially _____ ____,) we pray...

7.  That the sorrowing may be renewed in hope by Easter’s wondrous promise; and __________, (and) all our beloved dead come to the fullness of life and be forever welcomed into God’s loving embrace, we pray...

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions -

That God may receive with a special kindness those unspoken concerns, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Eternal God, you anointed your Son, Jesus Christ, to testify to the truth and to serve in humility and love.  Grant that our worship of you and our service of others may always follow the example of his self-emptying love.  We ask this through Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords, forever and ever.  Amen.
