The Author

Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

CELEBRANT: In our great need, let us pray through Christ Jesus, who is coming with great power and glory!

READER:  Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That the Church, and especially its shepherds, may faithfully share the wisdom handed on to it by God, gently and compassionately leading many to righteousness as the day of the Lord draws near, we pray...

2. That nations and peoples engulfed in conflict, and all who would make for terror, may find the path to peace, and not inherit the horror and disgrace of having forfeited the gift of life, we pray...

3.  That all the human family, especially its richer members, may not only pledge themselves to the greening of the home we call “planet earth” but also take the actions, soon and very soon, that will realize the pledge, we pray...

4.  That those recently elected to office in our land may serve only the common good and do so with integrity, compassion, and wisdom from on high, we pray...

5.  That there may be an increase in vocations to the priesthood and the religious life for the sake of the believing community; and, that all emergency personnel and service women and men may be blessed with safety, we pray...

6.  That the seriously ill in our community and among our personal family members and friends may know the comfort of love and the healing touch of our God, (especially ___________,) we pray...

7.  That Easter’s glorious hope may wrap the hearts of those in our community mourning loved ones; and _____________, (and) all our beloved dead come to rest forever in the embrace of our God’s love and peace, we pray...

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions -

That God may receive with a special kindness those unspoken concerns, we pray...

CELEBRANT: O God, help us to live in your friendship that we may welcome your Son in holiness when he comes again in power and glory.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
