Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Relying on the holy power of our God, let us offer our petitions, praying with unwavering faith and complete trust in the One who gives us life and breath.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  For the Church, shepherds and faithful, for the faith of the Church, for those who wrestle with faith: may we lift up one another in our shared belief as we humbly strive to carry out what the Gospel commands us to do, we pray...

2.  For the transformation of hearts across the globe so that war and violence may give way to peace and reconciliation, strife and contention to dialogue and mutual respect, we pray...

3.  For government and citizens, generously and effectively, to respond to the devastation visited upon the people of Puerto Rico by Hurricane Fiona, we pray...

4.  For the people of this age and this generation: may all dedicate themselves to overcoming whatever evils threaten the dignity of human life made in the image and likeness of God, we pray...

5.  For our community: may the Divine Spirit fall fresh upon us, moving us to recommit ourselves to growing as a community of faith and love, which welcomes and reverences God’s presence in all, we pray...

6.  For the safety of our service men and women and of our First Responders, for all who put their lives on the line for our lives, we pray...

7.  For an increase in vocations to the priesthood and the religious life from our faith family; and, for the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends to be blessed with the comfort of loving caregivers and the healing touch of our God, (especially __________,) we pray...

8. For the sorrowing to be firm in the hope of Easter’s glorious promise; and, for                      , (and) all our beloved dead: may they come to faith’s reward, we pray...

CELEBRANT: God of life, your people cry out to you in faith.  Listen to our pleas!  Help us to serve one another humbly and lovingly, and lead us to your heavenly kingdom, the place where faith comes home.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
