Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Heeding the call to be the loving servants of all, let us pray to God, our helper, who sustains our lives.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.             That the members of the church, shepherds and faithful, journeying the way of discipleship, may imitate the example of Jesus, not seeking to be first but rather to be servants to all, we pray...

2. That all wagers of war and makers of terror may renounce their ways, and realize that a harvest of justice is sown in peace for those who make peace, we pray...

3.  That Americans and Afghans, yearning to reach our shores from Afghanistan, may, soon and very soon, have that yearning fulfilled, we pray...

4.  That hope and healing and restoration may be gifted in abundance upon all in our land devastated by wind, water, or fire, we pray...

5.  That we adults, schooled by the Teacher who became the last of all and the servant of all, may teach the children of our community by word and example and with wisdom from above, bearing witness to the power of kindness, gentleness, and compassion, we pray...

   6.  That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may be gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially ____________,) we pray...

  7.  That the sorrowing may find peace and consolation in Easter’s glorious promise; (and) _____________, and all our beloved dead come to rest forever in the embrace of God’s love and peace, we pray...

  8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions –

(PAUSE)

That God may receive with special kindness those unspoken concerns, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Gracious God, listen to the prayers of your holy people for whom you care as a loving parent.  Implant ever more deeply within us the desire to cultivate peace and to work for justice for all.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
