Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT:  With unwavering trust, let us offer our prayer to the Lord our God, who raises up those who are bowed down, who comes to cast out our fears.

READER: Please respond: “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1. For God’s holy church: may we, shepherds and faithful, be instruments of Christ’s compassion to all who suffer, we pray...

2. For the leaders of the nations: may they learn how to cooperate in the pursuit of world peace so that the trumpets of war may be silenced, and the fires of terrorism quenched, we pray...

3. For the world community: may the human family respond generously and effectively to the terrible suffering and so heavy burdens of its family members in Afghanistan and Haiti, we pray...

4. For the restoration, by governments and neighbors, of all our sister and brother citizens who in these days have experienced flood and fire, we pray...

5. For an outpouring of God’s blessing on our human labor: may the work we do bring meaning and purpose to our lives and the lives of others, we pray...

6. For all on the planet to labor mightily to make God’s great work of creation reflect ever more the beauty of its Creator, we pray...

7. For the safety of our service men and women, and of all our First Responders; and, for the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends to be gifted with compassionate love and the healing touch of our God, (especially ________________,) we pray...

8. For Easter’s glorious promise to wrap the hearts of those in our community mourning loved ones; and, for all who have lost their lives to terrorism____________, and all our beloved dead: may they come to rest in the everlasting embrace of God’s love and peace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Loving God, you have made the blind to see and the deaf to hear.  Clear our eyes to see ever more the pain around us.  Open our ears to hear the cries of those in need.  Graciously receive these prayers we raise up to you through Christ our Lord.
