Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

 TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Let us turn toward heaven with uplifted hands, calling upon the God, who is our help, to attend to our prayers for the Church and the world.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That, following the lead of Pope Francis, all who confess Jesus as the Messiah may   willingly take up the cross of self-sacrifice, we pray...

2.  That the leaders of the nations may shun power based on violence, war, or terror, and commit themselves, more and more, to work together to build a just, stable, and peaceful world, we pray...

3.  That all peoples under siege may be freed from violence in their land wherever it may be, and freed for creating just societies which cherish human rights, we pray...

4.  That a compassionate government and compassionate sister and brother citizens may bring hope out of desperation by responding evermore generously to the needs of the so many whose lives have been devastated by fire in Maui, we pray...

5. That, as our nation celebrates Labor Day, our national political leaders may resolve to narrow the ever-growing income gap in our land, to provide adequate health care to all, and to support a living wage that preserves the dignity of workers, we pray... 

6.  That our service men and women may be blessed with safety as well as all First Responders; and the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially _______________,) we pray...

7.  That Easter’s glorious promise may comfort those among us in mourning; and _________________, (and) all our beloved dead come to the forever embrace of our God’s peace and love, we pray...

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions -

                                    (PAUSE)

That God may receive with a special kindness those unspoken concerns, we pray...

CELEBRANT: O God, in your power and glory, in your kindness, listen to the prayers of your faithful people, gathered to give honor and praise to your name.  May our petitions be holy and pleasing to you.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
