Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Let us offer our prayer, not growing weary or losing heart, but rather trusting in the God who comes to the aid of those in distress.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That all God’s holy people, shepherds and faithful, keeping their eyes fixed on Jesus and, come what may, persevering in faith, may be prophets of peace, justice, and forgiveness, we pray...

2.  That hearts may be transformed so that the world may heed the urgent and prophetic call to lay down its weapons of destruction, and so that countries divided by conflict may come to a season of reconciliation and a Sabbath of peace, we pray...

3. That shipments of foodstuffs from Ukraine to nations desperate to avoid starvation may go forward without fear of violence, we pray...

4. That politicians and legislators, military, and judicial personnel, and all who shape laws and policies may speak with honesty and act with integrity, we pray...

5.  That love, and God’s reconciling grace may open the way to peace for families where there is conflict and division, we pray...

6.  That there may be an increase of vocations to the priesthood and the religious life for the sake of the believing community; and, our service men and women and our First Responders blessed with safety, we pray...

7.  That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may be gifted with the care of loved ones and the healing touch of our God, (especially _________), we pray...

8.  That the sorrowing may be lifted up in hope by Easter’s glorious promise; and ___________, (and) all our beloved dead rest in the everlasting embrace of God’s love and peace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: O God, our help, and our deliverer, hear the cries of those in distress. Respond with compassion and kindness to your people’s needs. This we pray in the name of Jesus who is Lord forever and ever.
