Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: With the confident assurance of faith, let us pray for our needs and those of our neighbors.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That Pope Francis’ penitential journey to Canada may bear fruit in abundance, and all Church leaders model, for God’s holy people, faith-filled humility, confident hope, and compassionate love, we pray...

2.  That world leaders, mindful of the lessons of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, may labor mightily to end war so that the blessing of peace may come upon every land, we pray...

3. That all to whom much has been entrusted may be generous stewards of their time, talents, and treasure, lifting up in hope those weighed down by poverty, hunger, natural and man-made disasters, or threatened by climate change, we pray...

4.  That we who honor Abraham and Sarah as a blessing for all peoples may respect the wisdom and witness of the senior citizens of our community, we pray...

5.  That God may protect from harm those who keep watch through the night in the work of soldiering for us, of law enforcement, of firefighting, and of emergency medical assistance, we pray...

6.  That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may know the blessing of the comfort of loved ones and the healing touch of our God, (especially ___________,) we pray...

7.  That Easter’s great hope may fill the emptiness in the hearts of those among us mourning loved ones; and ____________, (and) all our beloved dead rest forever in the embrace of God’s love and peace, we pray...

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions -

                                    (PAUSE)

That our God may listen with kindness to those unspoken concerns, we pray...

CELEBRANT:   God of wonder, your Son promised us a share in your heavenly kingdom. Attend to the prayer of the people who cherish that promise.  Show us how to wait and live each day in hope of the second coming of Jesus Christ, through whom we make our prayer and who is Lord forever and ever.
