Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: To the Lord God of heaven and earth, let us offer our petitions in the name of Jesus, with whom we share table communion.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  For busy Christians, shepherds and faithful, burdened by many worries and distracted by many tasks: may all choose the better part, centering their lives more and more in the Jesus of the Gospels and therein finding their peace, we pray...

2.  For those who govern the nations of this world: may they welcome all into a conversation that will yield both freedom from war’s horrors and a lasting peace where there is no peace, we pray...

3.  For lands which generously welcome refugees and immigrants in search of shelter: may God, who blessed Abraham and Sarah for their hospitality, also bless those lands, and count among them these United States, we pray...

4.  For us who are privileged to be citizens of this great land: may we reverence one another and act humbly, showing malice towards none and charity for all, we pray...

5.  For the growth of our Eucharistic community in the art of hospitality: may the altar of God in our midst be ever more the Lord’s welcome table for all, we pray...

6.  For our ministers of the Word: may they continue to enter deeply into the mystery they proclaim; and, for those who serve our community as “usher ministers of hospitality”: may their graciousness and attentive care make us and our visitors feel warmly welcomed, we pray...

7.  For Church vocations to the priesthood to abound so that no community may want for Eucharist; and, for the comfort of love and the healing touch of our God for the seriously ill of our community and among our family members and friends, (especially ___________), we pray...

8.  For Easter’s hope to fill up the emptiness in the hearts of those in our community mourning loved ones; and, for ___________, (and) all our beloved dead: may they rejoice forever in our God’s peace and loving embrace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: God of love, as you welcome all who come to you, lead us to welcome with reverence and compassion all who come into our lives.  Strengthen us in our commitment to listen to the Word of truth, and to do your work on earth.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
