Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Dear friends, let us pray, as the Samaritan, moved with compassion for all, in the Church and in the world, who share life’s journey with us.

READER:  Please respond: “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That Church leaders and ministers, clerical and lay, and indeed all God’s holy people may be distinguished by their compassion, humility, and selfless service, imitating Christ, who came among us as servant of all, we pray...

2.  That the trumpets of war and the din of violence may soon be silenced in Ukraine and in every land, and a Sabbath of peace fall gently upon all peoples, we pray...

3.  That world leaders may work effectively for the just sharing of the earth’s resources, and for the care of the planet, we pray...

4.  That the blessings promised to the compassionate may be given to those who welcome refugees, and who comfort and lift up immigrants seeking refuge from violence or the chance at a better life, we pray...

5.  That those same blessings may fall abundantly upon all who strive to bandage the wounds of the hungry, the poor, the unhoused, and the addicted, we pray...

6.  That our first responders and our service men and women may be blessed with safety; and the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends gifted with loving caregivers and the healing touch of our God, (especially __________), we pray...

7.  That the sorrowing may be lifted up in hope by Easter’s promise; and ___________, (and) all our beloved dead rest in the everlasting embrace of God’s love and peace, we pray...

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions -

                                       (PAUSE)

That God may listen with kindness to those unspoken concerns, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Gracious God, attend to the prayer of your people, gathered in this holy place. Fill our hearts with the compassion of the Good Samaritan so that, attuned to the suffering of our sisters and brothers, we may bless the world with the love of your Son, Jesus the Christ, our Savior, through whom we make our prayer and who is Lord forever and ever.
