Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

CELEBRANT: Nourished by the bread of God’s word, let us offer our prayer in trust and confidence.

READER: Please respond, “FEED YOUR PEOPLE!”

1.  That we, God’s people, may treasure the Eucharist as the abiding sign and renewal of the divine covenant of love sealed in the blood of Christ, we pray...

2.  That all Christian churches may be healed of their divisions and reunited around the one holy table, we pray...

3.  That the human family’s many hungers---for bread, for freedom from want, for justice, for peace---may be satisfied in abundance by leaders willing to embrace God’s vision of how things ought to be, and willing to care more about their people than themselves, we pray...

4.  That those who help to make our worship a hymn of praise---priests, deacons, Eucharistic ministers, readers, servers, musicians, singers, ushers, and sacristans---may be blessed abundantly by our God for and in their ministries, we pray...

5. That God may gift with health, peace, love, and success in their labors our fathers and stepfathers, grandfathers and Godfathers, and all men who serve young people as coaches and teachers, priests and counselors, we pray...

6.  That our fathers who hurt in any way, those who miss their fathers today, and those who never knew their fathers or are estranged from them may know the compassionate comfort of loved ones, we pray...

7.  That hearts may be transformed, weapons laid down, and common-sense gun safety legislation enacted sooner rather than later, we pray...

8.  That there may be an increase of vocations to the priesthood so that no community may want for the Eucharist; and, the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially,) we

pray...

9.  That those among us who mourn may be lifted up in hope by Easter’s promise; and, our deceased fathers, and all our beloved dead rejoice forever with our God in the peace of the heavenly banquet, we

pray...

CELEBRANT: Loving God, with joy we have gathered to celebrate the wondrous mystery of the Christ’s presence in the breaking of the bread and the pouring of the cup.  May we who share this remembrance of the Lord be faithful to His covenant of unity, peace, and love.  This we pray through Christ our Lord.
