Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT

CELEBRANT: The Spirit of the One who raised Jesus from the dead dwells within us.  It is then that with faith and confidence we offer our prayer.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HAVE MERCY!”

1.   That, wherever the forces of death hold human beings bound, God’s people may summon forth life in the name of Christ with words of hope and deeds of compassion, we pray...

2.   That hearts may be transformed around the globe so that there may be justice for the oppressed, freedom from terrorism for all, and peace for the nations, especially where peace remains but a dream, we pray...

3.  That the God of healing and of life may grant success, soon and very soon, to the human family’s efforts to lift up and restore the countless victims of earthquake in Turkey and Syria, we pray...

4.   That those who weep for the loss of a loved one, as Martha and Mary did, may experience hope and consolation in the promise of Easter and with the support of the believing community, we pray...

5.   That all who struggle with their faith may come to share in the faith of Martha, who trusted in life even in the face of death, we pray...

6.   That the labors of farmers, migrant workers, gardeners, and all who coax life out of the earth each spring may be blessed in abundance, we pray...

7.  That parishioners, family members, and friends, afflicted with serious mental or physical illness, may know the blessings of comfort, loving care, and the healing touch of our God, (especially ____________,) we pray...

8.   That ___________, (and) all our beloved dead may come to the forever embrace of our God’s love and peace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: God of life, we have gathered to listen to words of freedom and release.  As Easter nears, quiet our fears, and draw us ever closer to you in mind, heart, and spirit.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
