Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

CELEBRANT: Trusting in our Shepherd God, whose light overcomes the darkness, let us offer our prayer now for the needs of the Church and the world.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HAVE MERCY!”

1.  That we, God’s holy people, may scatter earth’s darkness by preaching the just word---and practicing what we preach, we pray...

2.  That all peoples and refugees made desolate by war and terrorism, especially in Ukraine, the Middle East, and on the African continent, may come to a Sabbath of healing and a season of peace, we pray...

3.  That global and local efforts to assist the countless thousands, who have lost everything in the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, may be blessed beyond measure, we pray...

4.  That the mentally and physically challenged may always enjoy a warm welcome and honored place in every Christian community, we pray...

5. That the spiritual discipline of Lent may fill all catechumens, candidates, and each of us with light to bring forth all that is good and right and true, we pray...

6.  That our service men and women and all first responders, in harm’s way, may be kept safe; and, the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends be gifted with comfort, care, and the healing touch of our God, (especially ___________,) we pray...

7.  That the sorrowing may be lifted up in hope by Easter’s glorious promise; and, _____________, (and) all our beloved dead rest forever in the embrace of our God’s love and peace, we pray...

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions -

                                         (PAUSE)

That God may listen with special kindness to those unspoken concerns, we pray...

CELEBRANT:  God of hope and of healing, lead us and all your children out of the darkness into the light of your kingdom.  Keep us ever close to you, and graciously answer these prayers we place before you in the name of Jesus Christ, who is Lord forever and ever!
