Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

CELEBRANT: In the desert, Moses pleaded to God on behalf of his people.  In the Lenten desert, we ask God to listen to our petitions for those in need.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HAVE MERCY!”

1.  That, in the wilderness of this world, the Church, shepherds and faithful, may be the rock of God, providing the waters of hope and life to all who thirst, we pray...

2.  That those who control worldly power may attend to the law of God and seek only justice, we pray...

3.  That hearts may be transformed so that Ukraine, the desert lands of the Near and Middle East, and all nations in turmoil may soon know a Sabbath of healing and a springtime of peace, we pray...

4.  That our national political leaders may put aside their differences and work together to promote the common good, we pray...

5.  That the voice and dignity of women may be respected in every land, every culture, every religion, we pray...

6.  That our Lenten observance may prepare us to renew in holiness our baptismal vows, to welcome to this place all who come in need, and to profess more firmly than ever Jesus as the Christ, the Savior of the world, we pray...

7.  That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may be gifted with comfort, loving care, and the healing touch of our God, (especially _____________,) we pray...

8.  That the sorrowing may be lifted up by Easter’s hope-filled promise; and ____________ (and) all our beloved dead rest forever in the embrace of God’s love and peace, we

pray...

CELEBRANT: God of endless mercy, hear the prayer of your people.  Keep our eyes fixed on the One sent to be living water for a world thirsting for your presence.  We ask this in the name of Jesus, the Savior of the world, who is Lord forever and ever.
