Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Through the Holy Spirit, we have been given the gift of faith.  In that faith, let us turn to God and pray in our need.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That, adorned by the one Spirit with a variety of gifts, the Christian Churches may both delight in diversity and work for unity, we pray...

2.  That the leaders of the nations may transform the cries of the oppressed into songs of gladness by working for justice, lasting peace, and the right to life for all, we pray...

3.  That God may bless the gifts and talents we share, in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr., to lift up those who suffer from injustice and prejudice, we pray...

4.  That, though wearied by the pandemic, we may be blessed by our God with a renewed patience that leads us to take every means possible to protect family, friend, and neighbor from the coronavirus and its variants, we pray...

5.  That all our married couples may reveal Jesus’ loving presence to one another and drink deeply of the God-given wine of delight, and our society reverence ever more, in law and in culture, the marriage covenant, we pray...

6. That a commitment to the common good and to our democratic republic may lead our national leaders to confront the violence of extremism in our land in its every form, we pray...

7.  That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may be gifted with compassion and the healing touch of our God, (especially _________we pray...

8.  That Easter’s glorious promise may be the hope of those among us in mourning; and, _                    (and) all our beloved dead come to the fullness of life in the wedding feast of the eternal Jerusalem, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Gracious God, pour out your gifts of grace on a people who seek you with sincere hearts.  Transform us into the image of your Son, through whom we make our prayer and who is Lord forever and ever.
