FAITH BOOK

20TH  SUNDAY

August 18, 2024

Proverbs 9: 1-6; Psalm 34;
Ephesians 5: 15-20; John 6: 51-58

by Jude Siciliano, OP

Mini reflections on the Sunday scripture readings designed for persons on the run. “Faith Book” is also brief enough to be posted in the Sunday parish bulletins people take home.

From today’s Proverbs reading:

Wisdom calls,
“Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed!
Forsake foolishness that you may live,
advance in the way of understanding.”

Reflection:

Proverbs encourages us to choose God and the wisdom God offers. The banquet depicted in today’s Proverbs reading and the account of the multiplication of the loaves in our Gospel, are suggestive of the banquet Christ will host one day when all will be fed and there will be plenty left over.

So we ask ourselves:

  • Where do I find nourishment for my mind and spirit?

  • What ways must I change to “advance in the way of understanding?”
